Sport has long been known to have benefits to overcome depression or mental problems, when taken alone or in combination with other treatments. But recently researchers found that aerobic exercise is the most effective way to cope with depression.
It was discovered by researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. These findings suggest that aerobic exercise is the most effective for patients with depression. Meanwhile, a similar situation was found in other types of strenuous exercise.
Chairman of the study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Practice recommends that patients who are depressed do three to five sessions of aerobic exercise, with time 45-60 minutes each session, as reported by the Third Age (10/05).
The data showed that patients had increased and showed fewer signs of depression after four weeks of aerobic exercise. Even so researchers recommend that patients remain to exercise at least 10 to 12 weeks to be able to get the optimum effect in the treatment of depression.
Researchers found the number of patients who stopped exercising, but it is beneficial to their mental health. Even so, the exercise undertaken still be useful. To that end, the researchers should support patients who are depressed to do aerobic exercise, although not too routine.
